I own two pairs of Fitflops, it’s a relief having them as I can walk with ease for hours without getting tired legs and sore feet whenever I go to the mall to look for some log cabin furniture or running around with my active toddler.
I wore my Pietra Fitflops on my doctor’s checkup last weekend and my doctor’s secretary, who would always compliment its color, told me that Fitflops aren’t allowed on some pregnant women. She said I should read the warning attached on the item when I bought it. So when I arrive home, I started reading the attached leaflets (you can read more info at fitflop.com):
FITFLOP. It’s the flip flop with the gym built-in. Every pair of Fitflop sandals features our patent-pending Micwowobbleboard midsole technology, which was biomechanically engineered by Dr David Cook and Darren James at London South Bank University (LSBU).
Walking in Fitflop sandals can help:
1. Increase leg and bottom muscle activity up to 30%
2. absorb more shock than a normal shoe up to 22%
3. realign ground reaction force closer to your joins so you feel less ache in your hips and knees
4. reduce foot pressure and pain from heel spurs and plantar fascilitis.
I have read that part and here’s the part I forgot to look at! The WARNING:
Fitflop footwear has the potential to increase muscle activity in terms of duration and workload and instigates a more active foot profile. As such, we recommend that all Fitflop footwear to be used progressively to avoid excessive muscle soreness. If you
A) have any health concerns which you suspect may be aggravated by wearing them,
B) experience any discomfort as a result of wearing them, and/or
C) are PREGNANT, please consult a medical practitioner before starting or continuing to wearing Fitflop footwear.
Now I realized that I feel pain in my lower abdomen everytime I wear my Fitflops. Sure it is very comfortable to wear, I can walk for hours without complaining of any foot pains BUT it also gives me “workout” which am not supposed to do since am on full bed rest. I guess I will be wearing my Fitflops after I give birth. I will be back to flat sandals and doll shoes from now on.
