Is Drinking Soda Safe during Pregnancy?

One of the drinks my OB warned me to stay from are coffee and soda. But why is soda unsafe during pregnancy? One of the main reasons is that soda has a lot of sugar in it. It is said that an average can of soda has about ten teaspoons of sugar – too much sugar can result to excessive weight gain, plus the fact that soda has empty calories.

In addition, the carbonated water used in sodas has been shown to have a negative effect on calcium on the body. The phosphate in the soda is responsible for seeping the calcium out of your bones and blood stream. As your body needs calcium, the baby needs the calcium more to grow strong and healthy. And soda cannot offer that health benefits.

So what should pregnant women drink? 100% natural juice, water and milk!

waaah.. I love drinking soda though it must be a DIET. But if you are expecting, all you could think of is for the welfare of your unborn child which is essential.
